Earl C. Payne

In 1960 Earl C. Payne founded our company and it has been owned and operated by our family ever since.

Many new and exciting things have been developed over the 50 years in school pictures.

The days of film are becoming a distant memory as we now capture images on digital media.  Below is an image taken by Earl in Yosemite National Park using a Hasselblad Camera and 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 transparency film (slide).

Earl C. Payne : 1921-2006

In photography, a reversal film is a type of photographic film that produces a positive image on a transparent base. The film is processed to produce transparencies, in contrast with negative and print. Reversal film is produced in various sizes, from 35 mm, roll film to 8x10" sheet film.

A slide is a specially mounted individual transparency intended for projection onto a screen using a slide projector. This allows the photograph to be viewed by a large audience at once. The most common form is the 35 mm slide, placed inside a cardboard or plastic shell for projection.

So, that is how it was once done not all that long ago.  It is an art.  A testament to what we are all about here at Payne and Payne, the tradition of excellence which began once upon a time with Earl.
